HISTORY

Balnarring 1950s. Pichlers Chicken Bar in Frankston Flinders Road.
Pichlers migrated to Australia after the 1939-1945 war and were residents of the Somers Migrant Hostel. They settled in Balnarring on a five acre farmlet raising chickens and running a small shop. Theirs was a very early example of a ‘Hot Roast Chicken’ takeaway business. They also sold petrol through weekend hours at a time when this was a rare service and so were much appreciated by visitors to the area.
