HISTORY

Merricks North, c.1960. Foxeys Hangout located at the junction of Balnarring and Tubba Rubba roads. The name and practice of hanging foxes from the tree began in the 1930s.
Hanging of vermin discontinued in the 1980s as it was considered a health hazard. A young eucalypt was planted beside the ageing tree c.2005 and the original was cut down in 2011.
At this time it was listed as a Heritage Site by the Shire.
