HISTORYBalnarring State School at 89 Balnarring Road, 1962.
The last known photograph of the school building before it was demolished in 1962. The school itself had shut in 1950 and local children were thereafter bussed to the Red Hill consolidated School until a new Primary school opened in 1990.
Lawrie Carr and Ron Freestone had the contract to demolish the school. It was up to them to dispose of or reuse the materials as they saw fit.
There was a large old oak tree in the school yard which locals lobbied to retain, but it was cut down. Lawrie Carr remembers ‘there was a big fuss over that’.
