Balnarring c.1971. Gertrud Pichler.
Gertrud and husband Ryszard were post World War two migrants to Australia and lived in the Somers Migrant Hostel for a time. Gertrud was highly educated and worked at the HMAS Cerebrus base for a time, possibly as a secretary. The Pichlers purchased land in Balnarring and developed a poultry business raising hens for selling freshly cooked chickens in an early example of a Chicken Take Away outlet.
