HISTORY

Merricks State School c.1927 served a small local community. Children in the photograph are: Olive Oswin (wearing whie dress, front row), Mary Oswin, Mona Fragher, Ethel Oswin - back row - and
Billy Huntley, John Oswin, Norman Fragher, - front row.

This school, together with several other small schools of the eastern Peninsula was closed in 1950. Red Hill Cponsolidated School was the replacement and ran courses up to year eight. Children were transported to Red Hill by busses, their journeys lasting as much as an hour or more each way.
