HISTORYThe hotel was built about 1890 on the site of the former Bay View Hotel by Cooper, on the corner of Pike and Salmon streets, Hastings. The entire back of the postcard is covered in writing which is unable to be read as the black ink has run. Stamped on the back of the postcard is: “POSTCARD For correspondence For Address Only Stamp”.
DESCRIPTIONRoyal Hotel, Hastings, built on both sides of a corner block. A large two story building with a verandah around both sides on both stories. The upper verandah has a decorative wrought iron strip around its lower edge. A back section has a plain facade with the word “billiards” on it. In front of the hotel are two open four wheeled carriages, one drawn by three horses, the other by two, each containing a group of men. Two men are standing next to the carriages, and three women are on the upper balcony. There is a dog in the right hand corner.
