HISTORYThe image is on a post card which has postage “half-penny stamp inland, penny stamp abroad” but no stamp. On the back is written in ink “L to R against post? (1) E.G. Jones (chair) (2) L. Sparks (barber) (3) A. Lothian (4) F. Spence (5) G. Bickley (6) R. Lewis (7) F. Marrabella”
DESCRIPTIONThe image shows a double fronted single storied timber building with a corrugated iron roofed verandah. Above a window in the building is a sign on which the words “Hairdresser Tobacconist” can be made out. There is another sign which reads “The Peninsula Post ... sold here”. Leaning against the verandah is a bicycle. In front of the building are, from left to right, a man leaning against a verandah post, a man seated with another man standing behind him cutting his hair, a man seated with a football, a man standing holding a cricket bat, a man standing in a white coat holding a doctor’s bag, a man standing holding an open book, and a man standing playing a mouth organ, with a music stand in front of him. Written in ink at the bottom of the image is “Hastings 1914”
