HISTORYThis image was part of the declaration of peace in Hastings. This image is taken in Salmon Street, Hastings as the car was passing by the Corner Store at Pike Street, looking from the hotel. On the back is written in ink “E. De La Haye Peace declared 1945”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows two cars driving down Salmon Street. The first car is festooned with branches and has one young woman standing on the roof holding a sign reading “V.P” A man is standing on the left running board also holding a sign reading “V.P” and another young woman is standing on the right running board. The car behind shows only the front part and has people standing on the roof holding a sign depicting a cross. A single story timber building is in the background and next to it behind the car is a double story timber building on which the word “Corner” can be seen. A wooden power pole is in front of this building.
