HISTORYThe 3 boys on the right of the front group are Thomas Prosser, b. 1870 (Graeme Prosser’s grandfather), William Prosser, b. 1868 (from Harry Prosser’s first marriage) and John Charles Prosser, b. 1873. The man second from the left in this group is Harry Prosser and next to him is his wife Margaret (nee Grayden)
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows the general store in Hastings. It is a timber building with a brick roof and a verandah with a corrugated iron roof. The verandah posts are decorated at the top. At the top of the verandah is a large sign with the words “GENERAL STORE” written twice and the words “H. PROSSER” in between. Below the verandah roof around its extent are the words “flour bran & pollard oats maize & chaff drapery boots & shoes groceries”. The residential dwelling is attached to the right side of the building. Under the verandah to the left is a small group of children. Under the verandah in front of the building are 4 adults and 5 children, and to their right is a man and a dog. The floor of the verandah and the ground around is dirt. On the back of the image is written in biro “Hastings General Store Mr & Mrs Harry Prosser”
