HISTORYThis is an early view of the main street in Hastings, now High Street. The Hastings Hall is on the left-hand side of the photograph and the Royal Hotel, later named Western Port Hotel, is seen on the right. “Postcard, correspondence, address only, Kodak Australia” are printed on the back of the postcard. A letter written in black pen on the back of the postcard is as follows: “Tom Peddle sent a telegram yesterday so he will land in about a week now. They are all delighted to think they will see him so soon. I got those cakes safely. thanks very much for getting them for me. Love to all. From Vera”.
DESCRIPTIONThe image shows the very dark main street in Hastings. The road appears to be gravel and in the foreground is a beautiful street lantern. There are buildings on the left and the fight of the street. A three rail fence is on the left of the photograph. Trees are on the sides of the street further down. The gutters appear to be concrete. Printed on the front of the photograph in white is “View, Hastings”.
