HISTORYThis is a photo of the Catholic Church in Hastings. The first Catholic Church was built in 1889 at Victoria Street. This was later transferred by Hurley’s bullock team to its present site in Coolstore Road where later a modern church was erected. Printed on the back of the photograph in biro is: “Catholic Church Hastings (earlier photo of timber building)”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a wooden church with a galvanised iron roof and a cross on the top. There is a water tank on a stand on the side of the building. The door into the narthex has a pointed top. A white picket fence is seen at the front and continuing along from this is a post and wire fence in front of a paddock of grass. A power pole is seen in the foreground and large trees are to the side and back of the church. A tiny fur tree stands near the post and wire fence. A small section of road can be seen in the foreground.
