HISTORYThe photo of these cottages was taken in Skinner Street, Hastings. The cottage on the left of the photograph is of David Mentiplay’s home and the one on the right is Thomas Lothian’s home. This is a very early postcard of Hastings before electricity. Printed on the back of the postcard is: “ Pictorial Post Card” and written in biro is “David Mentiplay’s House on left Thomas Lothian on right”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image is of two weatherboard cottages with a picket fence at the front, facing a gravel street. A small gate is seen in the fence to the right of the photo. Both houses have large brick chimneys. A small girl is standing on the footpath facing the camera. An old gas street light is beside the road.
