HISTORYThis is a photograph of the Hastings Postmaster’s residence with the Post Office and local telephone exchange beside it. The building beside the post office is a newsagent with the name “M. Mentiplay Newsagent” written on the top. These buildings are in High Street, Hastings. Printed on the back of the photo in biro is: “Hastings Postmasters Residence and Post Office High St”.
DESCRIPTIONThe image shows a brick home with a tiled roof and brick fence and adjoining brick shops. One shop is an newsagency as is evident by the advertisements for “Herald”, “Argus“, “Age” and “Sun” newspapers. The name M. Mentiplay Newsagent is on top of the sign with “Weekly Times” below the sign. There is grass and weeds in the foreground and a large expanse of road in front of the buildings. A large tree can be seen at the back of the house on the left-hand side of the photo.
