HISTORYThe photograph is of a line of shops in Main Street, Hastings (now Marine Parade). The shop on the right is “M. O’Neill Draper & Confectionery”. On the sign near the entrance is “Tobacco, Stationery, Postcards” with a sign above “M O’Neill”. The next shop with a sign is “F.J. Perrott, Butcher”, (this is the site of the present Shire Offices). The shop further down the street says “Baker, Pastry Cook”. The inscription on the front of the photo is: “1914 Main St. Hastings (now Marine Pde)”. Written in biro on the back is: “M. O’Neills Draper etc F.G. Perrott Butcher”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image is of a street lined with shops. Some of the shops have verandahs with posts over the footpath. Writing can be seen on some of the shops. There are several fences both in front of and between the buildings. The street is earth with puddles of water in various places. The inscription on the front of the image reads: “1914 Main St. Hastings (now Marine Pde)”.
