HISTORYThis is one of a series of colorised early postcards of Somerville, Victoria showing the Soldiers Memorial. Soldiers Memorials were erected after World War 1 for local men who served in the War. A small strip of paper is stuck to the back of the postcard with the inscription: “Made especially for J. Quade, Somerville, Vic.” Printed on the front of the postcard is: “Soldiers Memorial. Somerville. Vic.”. Printed on the back of the postcard is: “Post Card For Correspondence For Address”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a Soldiers Memorial in the foreground surrounded by concrete posts connected by chains. There are shops across the road with red roofs and verandahs over the footpath. The shop on the corner, on the left-hand side of the image has a sign ‘S. Lacer’ printed on it. Electricity poles and street signs can be seen and there is grass in the foreground. Large trees can be seen across the road behind a fence. Printed at the bottom of the image is: “Soldiers Memorial, Somerville. Vic.”.
