HISTORYThis is a very early family portrait of the Roseneath household of Tankerton, French Island. The people in the photograph identified by Ruth Gooch are: Jack Russell (with dog); his sister, Agnes Taylor (by his right, standing); Flora McLachlan , owner of Roseneath, (seated left). Written on the back of the photograph in black ink is: “Roseneath - Household Tankerton French Island March 7 1904”. and “A.W. Peterson. Crib Point. Vic.”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image is a portrait of a group of two men, four women, one child, one baby and a dog. Both men have long-sleeved shirts, ties and vests. The baby is sitting on the lap of the woman to right of the photo and the child is standing on a frame beside the man on the right-hand side of the photo. The dog is a border collie. There is a small table with a cloth and refreshments on the right-hand side of the photograph and a teapot, with a tea cosy, is on the ground. The group is standing in front of a weather-board house with a galvanized iron roof and verandah posts. There is a mesh fence around the verandah. Printed on the bottom of the image is: “H. Wilson, 54 Greville St., Prahran.”.
