HISTORYThis house was built by Dr Arthur Robert Haywood in Watts Road (now Frankston-Flinders Road). The house was moved to Victoria Street, Hastings and extended in the 1930s. It was the first resident’s doctor’s surgery. The original home was built of jarrah and fibro cement in 1916-18. On the back of the photograph, written in blue biro is: “Fibro and jarra house built by Arthur B Robert Haywood 1916 w 1918”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a house of timber construction on the bottom half of the walls and fibro cement on the top. There is a large brick chimney on the right-hand side of the photograph and a tiny bit of chimney can be seen on the left of the house. There is a vent near the roof at the front of the house. There are timber verandah posts across the front and side of the house. Boards fill in the area between the verandah and the ground. Gardens can be seen to the front and side of the house. There are some fence posts and wire netting across the front. A roadway can be seen on the right-hand side foreground of the image.
