HISTORYThis is a photograph of Reuben Perrott, in fancy dress, taken in 1913. It was sent, as a post card to his sister Ethel (Effie) on 20/05/1914. Reuben is the son of Frederick George Perrott, an early butcher in Hastings. Reuben’s other sister, Alice, is referred to in the letter on the back of the post card which reads as follows: “Hastings 20/5/14 Dear Effie Just a card to let you know that I will not be sure when I will be coming home. Got the result of the exam this morning. I got through easy. I got 194 marks out of 200 so I did not do so bad. The next exam is on the 18th June at 1 o’clock in the afternoon so I will stay here a while longer. All your people are well. Took Alice home last night. Well Darling no more news to tell so will close with Love & Kisses to you. Yours truly”. Also printed on the back is: POST CARD For Inland Postage & Some Foreign Countries this space may now be used for communication The Address only to be written here Half Penny stamp Inland Penny Stamp Abroad”.

There are leaves all over the ground and a wooden frame is on the left-hand side of the photograph. The top and left-hand side of the image has been over exposed to light.
