In the foreground of the image the tray of a truck can be seen parked beside the boat, where four more men can be seen picking up bags from a big pile on the tray of the truck. A large bag is lying on the end of the truck. Printed at the bottom of the image is: “Loading stores aboard the PARINGA at Stony Point Dec. 1934.”.

HISTORY

These are the Chinese crew members of the boat “Paringa”, taken at Stony Point in December, 1934. They are loading stores, probably rice, from a truck onto the boat. The original photo was taken by Arthur Paterson.
