HISTORYThis is the Stony Point jetty and the boat moored at the end is the “Alvina”. The “Alvina” was a ferry that took passengers from Stony Point, Philip Island and French Island. It was built of iron in the UK in 1887. She was 194 tons gross with a length of 139 ft. She came to Western Port in 1923 and stayed for ten years. Written on the back in red pencil is: “Alvina at Stoney Point”. Information on the “Alvina” is can be found in the book ‘Hastings People & Places Vol 2”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a boat moored at the end of a long jetty. The foreshore is in the foreground which shows grass, a small tree on the left-hand side of the image and several shrubs. Part of a large tree can be seen in the extreme left of the image. There appears to be more than one boat at the end of the jetty and several masts can be seen. The water extends to the far horizon.
