HISTORYThis is an image of the Western Port Ferry “Genista”. The “Genista” arrived in 1889, purchased from Howard Smith Ltd. It is a wooden vessel of 83 tons, built in 1886. She ably served as a local ferry on the Western Port until 1930. In 1920, Captain James L. Clarke, son of the former skipper, was placed in command.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a boat on the water coming towards the camera. There is no background. Written on the paper at the bottom of the photograph is: “Genista”.
