HISTORYThis large gathering is in Marine Parade, Hastings for the opening of the new foreshore in January, 1929. Written on the back of the photograph in pencil is: “1929”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image is of a very large gathering of men, woman and children with their backs to the camera. A man in a three-piece suit can be seen, in an elevated position, in front of them. All the people appear to be very well dressed and all are wearing hats. Some umbrella’s can be seen. A group of boys in uniform are standing in a line on the right-hand side of the image. Two are holding flags. There is a tall, thick post on the right-hand side with a thinner post behind it. There are two lines of bunting attached to the posts and a line of flags is in the top centre of the image. The foreshore is seen in the background.
