HISTORYPeterson’s Garage was at Stony Point. This car is a Type 37 Bugatti of Jack Day which raced in the first Grand Prix in 1928 on Phillip Island and finished second in its class. Cars travelled by ferry to Phillip Island for the races. More history on the Phillip Island car races cars can be found in the book “Stony Point The Heart of Western Port” by Bruce Bennett and Arthur Woodley. A later Peterson’s Garage was at Crib Point.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a racing car parked outside a large shed. Peterson’s Motor Garage is written in large white letters on the front of the building. A man is sitting at the wheel, another standing at the side of the car and a small boy is at the front of the car holding a large white jug. A man is standing at the entrance to the shed. There is a petrol bowser in front of the garage on the right-hand side of the photo and a ladder is leaning up against the shed nearby. Part of a petrol sign can be seen on the left-hand side of the photograph.
