HISTORYThis racing car is at Peterson’s Garage at Stony Point. The car is most likely to be a model after 1927 - note the brakes on the wheel. It would have been raced at Phillip Island. Cars travelled by ferry to Phillip Island for the races. More history on the Phillip Island car races cars can be found in the book “Stony Point The Heart of Western Port” by Bruce Bennett and Arthur Woodley. The coffs were used for storing live cray fish. The fisherman would leave them at Petersons’ and they would bag them and send them to market. A later Peterson’s Garage was at Crib Point.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a man sitting in a racing car. The number 16 is on the back of the car in large numbers. A white wooden fence and a wooden building with an iron roof can also be seen. Part of a white wooden fence is on the right-hand side of the image. A large pole is behind the fence.
