HISTORY

This group of people are at a ball celebrating the Football premiership of 1928. They are at the Somerville Recreation/Fruit Growers Hall. This hall burnt down. Written on the back of the photograph in pencil is: “from Bill Haddock Somerville Fruit Growers Hall Somerville celebrating 1928 Premiership - hall burnt down”.

DESCRIPTION

This image shows a very large group of people in a hall for a football celebration. There is a large banner in the centre of the hall which reads: “M.P.F.A. S.F.C. Premiers 1928”. Streamers and balloons hang from the roof. Several wooden posts can be seen on either side of the hall and across the top. The building is unlined and the galvanised iron roof can be seen. The floor is wooden boards. All the revellers are very well dressed - the men in suits and the girls in knee-length dresses with beads, white stockings and strappy shoes.
