HISTORYThis photograph of Hastings School children belonged to Mary Oliver(nee Haddock). Mary is one of the students. Written on the back of the photograph in blue biro is: “Mary Oliver Watts Rd Hastings”. The photographers details are also stamped on the back. The second photograph has the following written in blue biro: “Miss M. McKenzie C/0”. Also stamped on the back is: “S.J.D. & A.C. Watt Saddlery Myers Road Merricks North, 3926”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a group of school children, in five rows, posing for a photograph, under large pine trees. Part of a timber building can be seen on the far left-hand side of the photograph. There are seventeen children in the back row, nineteen children in the second back row, twenty children in the middle row, twenty-one children in the second front row and nineteen children sitting, cross-legged on the ground, in the front row. A boy in the front row is holding a small blackboard which reads: “Hastings School 1098 -.1935.-”.
