HISTORY

This image shows a mock execution carried out by members of the Hastings 40 pounder Bullock Battery in 1895. Written on the back in blue ink is: “The property of Harold Haddock Plymouth Street Hastings To be returned please 21/8/53 6/5/60 A mock execution. Carried out by members of Hastings 40 Pr Bullock Battery. 1895.”.

DESCRIPTION

This image shows a group of five men carrying out a mock execution. Four men are standing and one is kneeling with his head on a block and his hands behind his back. One man is leaning over him with a club in his hand. A small dog is on the left-hand side of the image. The man on the right-hand side is reading from a book and pointing his finger. Two men are wearing ordinary hats, and two are wearing ‘executioners’ hats. A piece of cardboard is taped to the bottom and reads: “A mock execution carried out by members of Hastings 40 Pr Bullock Battery 1895”
