HISTORYThis group of soldiers are from the Hastings 40 pounder Battery, Victorian Rangers. They are members of the advance party at an Easter camp at Langwarrin. The men are, from left to right, Corporal A. Grieves, Gunner J. Kearns, Corporal D. Mentiplay and Sergeant Major Creaney. Written on the back in blue pen is: “Easter Camp Langwarrin 1891 Some members of advance party Hastings 40 pr Battery Victorian Rangers The property of Harold Haddock 4 Plymouth Street. Hastings. 10/6/60 Cpl. A. Greives, Gn J Kearns, Cpl. D. Mentiplay Serj Major Creaney”. The number 10 is also written on the back.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows four soldiers posing for a photograph in front of several tents. The soldier on the left is standing to attention in front of the open doorway of the tent. There is a bucket beside the tent. There is a soldier standing in the middle of the image. The soldier sitting next to him is wearing an overcoat and the soldier on the far right-hand side of the image is lying back on one elbow on the grass.
