HISTORYThis photograph was taken outside the Western Port Hotel in Hastings. It shows Fred Perrott, a butcher, calling at the Hotel. The other men are, from left, Thos Joyce, J O’Rielly and L O’Rielly. All these men were deceased by 21/08/1953. This Western Port Hotel stood on land on the west side of Marine Parade between Hodges and Coolstore Roads. Written on the back in blue pen is: “The property of Harold Haddock Hastings. 9. To be returned please. The Butcher Mr Fred Perrott calls at Western Port Hotel. Hastings. Other in picture Mr. Thos Joyce Mr J. O’Rielly. Mr. L. O’Rielly All deceased Photo taken 1900”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows four men standing outside a building along with a horse and cart. The men are all looking at the camera. The man on the left-hand side of the image is standing beside the wheel of the cart with his hands on his hips. The man beside him is wearing a butcher’s apron and has one hand on his hip and the other arm resting on the cart. There is a man with a moustache, standing close to the horse’s head. The man on the far right-hand side of the image is leaning against a post on the building. He has a beard and moustache. He is standing cross-legged. Four verandah posts can be seen on the building along with a doorway and three sets of windows. Trees can be seen in the background on the left-hand side of the image.
