HISTORYThis is from the home of George Helgerson of Hastings, which is written on the back of the photograph in blue biro. Also written on the back in blue biro is: “1904” and “(Presented by Mrs Finn 4 Barcoo St., Hastings)”. George Helgerson lived in Hastings.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a family group sitting on the grass in front of fruit trees, posing for a photograph. There are two women on the left, one young and the other older. The young woman is wearing a white long sleeved blouse with high lace neck and large puffed sleeves from the elbow to the wrist. She is wearing a dark coloured skirt. The older woman is wearing dark coloured clothes with a large frill at the front of her bodice. The two young woman on the right of the image are wearing white clothes, both with long sleeves and high neck lines. All women are wearing brooches at the base of their necks. There is a man in the centre of the image leaning on a wheelbarrow full of apples. He is wearing a high collared, long sleeved white shirt, a waistcoat and a hat. A small girl is sitting at the front holding the handle of a basket full of apples. She is dressed all in white and has curls over her left shoulder and a large white bow on the opposite side of her head. Everyone is beautifully dressed. There is grass in the foreground. Fruit can be seen on the trees in the background. The photograph has been glued onto a piece of card.
