HISTORYThis cottage was owned by the Sposito family and was situated in Victoria Street, Hastings. It was built by the Stanford family. The back section was built in 1900 and the front in 1905. Jack Stanford was born there. Other people to have lived in the cottage were Edna Fisher and Cliff Sposito. The cottage was moved in September, 1985, to the corner of Herring and Skinner Streets, Hastings and was restored by the Hastings-Western Port Historical Society members. It is now called ‘Pioneer Cottage’ and is part of the Hastings-Western Port Museum complex. Written on the back in blue biro is: “Sposito home in Victoria St Hastings C. Sposito Collection”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a small white cottage with a green roof. A four post verandah is at the front with an arched lace trim from post to post. There is a brick chimney on a top corner of the roof with a television antenna attached. Two windows can be seen on the side of the cottage and two at the front. A blind is pulled down on the left-hand side of the verandah. Flowers can be seen in front of the verandah and tall trees behind the cottage. A brown timber fence with a white rail on top is across the front. A wire gate is open showing two tracks for the driveway. A concrete footpath is in the foreground.
