Three men are standing on the left of the memorial and three men are sitting on the right-hand side. They all have their backs to the camera. A large crowd of people are standing and sitting facing the men. A woman is sitting at an organ/piano on the right-hand side. Everyone is very well dressed and most are wearing hats and coats. There are several vehicles on the left-hand side of the image and a bus with people looking out of the window on the right-hand side. A street with houses to its left can be seen and more houses are partly visible on the right-hand side. Tall trees are in the centre, background of the image. Two telegraph poles can be seen.

HISTORY

This photograph is thought to be the opening of the War Memorial in Somerville in the early 1920s. Printed on the back is: “Post Card Correspondence Address only Kodak Australia” Also written in blue biro is: “Somerville fr Mary Marshall”.
