HISTORYThis photograph is thought to be the opening of the War Memorial in Somerville in the early 1920s. Printed on the back is: “Post Card Correspondence Address only Kodak Australia” Also written in blue biro is: “Somerville fr Mary Marshall”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a tall war memorial with a lamp on the top standing in an enclosed area which is surrounded by eight posts with a chain attached. Three men are standing on the left of the memorial and three men are sitting on the right-hand side. They all have their backs to the camera. A large crowd of people are standing and sitting facing the men. A woman is sitting at an organ/piano on the right-hand side. Everyone is very well dressed and most are wearing hats and coats. There are several vehicles on the left-hand side of the image and a bus with people looking out of the window on the right-hand side. A street with houses to its left can be seen and more houses are partly visible on the right-hand side. Tall trees are in the centre, background of the image. Two telegraph poles can be seen.
