HISTORYThe woman standing beside the little girl is Miss Lily Peterson and her nephew Reg Petersen is on right-hand side of the men. The other two men are Arthur Petersen and Harry Horton. Arthur and Lily are brother and sister. They are outside the fourth Crib Point Post Office which was built by Miss Peterson. She was Post Mistress from 1917 to 1942, when she took sick leave. She never married and was buried at Crib Point Cemetery on November 13, 1963, aged 87. Written on the back of the photograph in pencil is: “Auntie Lily Petersen Arthur Petersen Harry Horton Reg Petersen”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a group of people standing outside a post office, posing for a photo. There are two women standing in the doorway of the post office, one woman and a small girl standing outside the post office and three men standing behind a car which is parked on the side of the road with the doors wide open. The post office has dark coloured bricks around the bottom section and two brick chimneys can be seen on the roof. A large single window at the front has the sign ‘Money Order Office’ printed at it’s base. “Post office” is printed at the top of the doorway. A sign reading: ‘Commonwealth Savings Bank of Australia’ is attached to the front of the building. Part of a wooden building can be seen behind a fence on the left-hand side of the image. A tall telegraph pole is between the two buildings. All the people are smiling and are very well dressed.
