HISTORYThese soldiers are N.C.O.s and gunners of the Hastings Battery, Australian Field Artillery, 1904-1909. They are in front of a gun shed on the Hastings foreshore. There were about fifty men in the No. 6 Battery. Written on the back in biro is: “L. Mell Elmore”. L.M. Elmore was a previous member of the Historical Society. The names of the soldiers are as follows: Back row: D. Mentiplay, J. White, B. Stockton, B. Mair, ....Hodgins, F. Stockton, ....Haddock. Centre row: G. Barley, F. Barley. Front row: ............, A. Benton, B. Benton, D. Haddock, E. Mead, C. Amendola. The copy and original of this image was owned by Beryl Stockton.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a group of nineteen soldiers posing for a photograph. There are eleven men standing and eight men sitting or kneeling at the front. They are in the doorway of a wooden building. Two large wooden doors are open on either side of the soldiers. A large piece of the photo paper has been torn away on the right-hand side.
