HISTORYThis is one in a series of photographs taken of the Hastings Battery and the Armstrong Gun. Sgt Major Creaney is standing at the back of the gun on the left-hand side.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a large gun on a field carriage and limber beside a foreshore. Seven soldiers are alongside the barrel at the front and two soldiers are standing to attention at the back of the barrel. Another soldier is attending to a small group of bullocks standing between the gun and the foreshore. The foreshore is lined with mangroves and islands can be seen in the background. Tree stumps can be seen on either side of the cattle. These soldiers are probably preparing the gun to be moved and the cattle are probably waiting to be hitched to the limber. The size of the copy measures L10 x W15.
