HISTORYThis is one in a series of photographs taken of the Hastings Battery and the Armstrong Gun. Written on the back is: “Royal Australian Artillery Gun drawn by bullocks - for Boer War Military Detachment Hastings (Vic) circa 1899-1902”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a group of soldiers standing beside a cannon with their backs to the camera. The cannon is mounted on a field carriage. Eight bullocks are standing in front of the limber. They are on a foreshore where several small boats can be seen and an island in the far distance. A jetty and boat shed can be seen on the left-hand side of the image and buildings can be seen on the right-hand side. A large gum tree is on the left and a dead tree is in the middle of the image. Several trees, including a tall pine is on the right-hand side.
