HISTORYThis is a photograph of the Hastings Brass Band taken at the opening of the brick works at Bittern. (See “The Old General Store” by Bruce Bennett, page 38). DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a brass band posing for a photograph. The group comprises of seventeen men and boys. They are outdoors on the grass in three rows. There are seven standing in the back row, seven sitting on a form in the middle row and three sitting on the grass in the front row. They are all dressed in suits, white shirts and ties and hats. Some are wearing coats and they are all holding their brass instruments. Flags can be seen behind them beside a spectators stand. Part of a building and water tank can be seen on the left-hand side of the image.
