HISTORY

This is the Somerville Primary State School No. 2656 in 1936. This building was destroyed by fire in 1953. Printed in black on a piece of paper and glued to the back of the photograph is: “Primary School:3 teachers, 3 rooms.”. After the fire, classes were held in church halls for more than a year. The first building on the burnt-out site was an old school building transported from Eildon. This formed the beginning of a new school complex. The rebuilt school was opened by Mr (later Sir) William Leggatt, Minister for Education and Local Member for Mornington.

DESCRIPTION
