HISTORYThis couple are ready for the Hastings March of Time Ball. It was a ‘dress-up’ ball held on February 14, 1946.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a smiling woman and man, dressed in old-fashioned ballroom clothes, standing side by side, posing for a photo. The woman is wearing a long sleeved, floor length gown with a large bow at the neck. The skirt has a pattern of large flowers and has a garland around the bottom. She is wearing a large bonnet and her hair has ringlets on each side. She is wearing spectacles and is holding a posy in her right hand. The man is dressed in top hat, black tie and tails. He has a white vest, pin-stripped trousers and black shoes. He is holding a short cane in his left hand. Curtains can be seen on the wall behind the couple. Written on the mounting board beneath the photo is: “Hastings March of Time Ball 14/2/46”.
