HISTORYThis man is Bob (Robert Stanley) Potts. He built this store in Tyabb in 1927, the year electricity came in. He later built a house behind it. He married Elsie Prout. They lived in Tyabb for many years. His store offered groceries, lollies, drinks, haberdashery, electrical goods, wireless sets bicycles and all sorts. He sold the business on 12/03/1932 and moved to Ballarat. He later returned and resumed the business. The woman is Maye Edwards. Written on the back in blue pen is: “Maye Edwards - Bob Potts Tyabb general store prop: Kodak Print V36”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a man and woman standing outside a shop, posing for a photo. The woman is wearing a full length light coloured coat and hat. There is a pram behind her. The man is wearing dark trousers, a lighter coloured coat, white shirt and a bow tie. A large front window and the front door of the shop can be seen. The shop window is full of goods and signage. ‘Newsagency’ is printed in very large letters across the bottom of the window. More advertizing is across the top of the window including the words “Frocks”. Two verandah posts can be seen in the foreground. Part of a wooden building with a square window and doorway at the front, is on the left-hand side of the image. A garden and post and rail fence is in front of the building.
