HISTORYThis 1924 navy football team is from the Flinders Naval Depot which is now HMAS Cerberus. They are from the Navy Seconds Football Club. Their names are as follows: O. Jansen (Bndry Ump). Back row: H.M. Moller, A. Mitchell, T. Pope, J. Levy, E. Fisher, W.H. Leyden, A. Kyme, J. Collingwood. Middle row: E. Dunlevie, C. Cheyne, L. Irving (Capt), R. Dreverman (Vice Capt), R. Wood, H.A. Hodkinson (Secty). Front row: A. Lancaster, J. Kirby, E. Green, W. Fennell, J. Sires. The brick building in the background is the navel depot.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a group of footballers, in three rows, posing for a photograph. There are twelve men in both players and navel uniform standing, five players sitting on chairs and five players sitting cross-legged on the ground. All the players have their arms folded except for the player in the centre holding the football. The football uniform is dark with the Australian Coat of Arms on the left-hand side of their shirt. Two flags on short poles are being supported by two players in the front row. The players are in front of a dark brick building which has three notice boards on the wall. Two sets of doors and four white posts can also be seen. The words “Navy Seconds Football Club. Season 1924.” is printed in gold letters on the mounting at the top and the names of the players and the photographers details are printed in gold on the mounting at the bottom.
