HISTORYThis is a 100 ton cylinder being driven through High Street, Hastings. Its dimensions are 60’ x 6’ x 5” thick MS. Overall length is 115’ + 2 pusher trucks. Total weight, 135 tons. The station wagon is a 1964 E H Holden. This information is written on the back of the photograph in blue ink. On the right-hand side is the butcher’s shop, jeweller’s shop and the shoe and repair shop. On the left-hand side of the photograph is the State Bank and the Estate Agent. The number 3234 is stamped on the back.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a very large cylinder being transported on a semitrailer along the street of a town. Two trucks, with weights on the back, are pushing from the rear. The photograph is taken from the rear of the vehicles. Shops line either side of the street. A line of motor cars are parked along the left-hand side of the street. The last car is a Holden station wagon. People can be seen standing outside the shops watching.
