HISTORYThis is the Bittern A Grade cricket Team taken when they were premiers of the Mornington North Peninsula Association. It is estimated that this photo was taken in the late 1940s, possibly in 1949. The names of the men are as follows: Back row: G. McCarthy (president), N. Bishop, (umpire), S. Barden, G. Allen, A. Allen, J. Langman and C. Forden. Front row: E. Allen, A. Langholz, F. Allen (captain), J. Wilson, A. Calder and Y. Mirabella. This Bittern cricket team were premiers in the following years: 1947-48, 1948-49, and 1949-50. A photocopy from a newspaper of this photograph, along with a hand written note from Arthur Woodley, written on 27/07/1988, accompanies this photograph.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a group of thirteen men, on grass, posing for a photograph. There are seven men standing in the back row and six men crouching or kneeling in the front row. All the men in the front row are wearing ‘whites’. The two men in the centre are holding a cricket bat each, crossed in front of them. The man second from the left is wearing cricket pads and gloves. The men in the back row are wearing white shirts and different coloured trousers. Two of these men are wearing sleeveless pullovers. The man wearing the tie has only one arm. Tall pine trees are in the background.
