HISTORYThis building is the public hall in Baxter, north of Hastings. There is no known history on what occasion this gathering was attending.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a large group of over one hundred men, woman and children standing outside a weather-board building, posing for a photo. They are standing in several rows with most of the children in the front row. Everyone is very well dressed with the majority wearing coats. The building behind them has a narthex at the front with a small side opened door and a sign on the front which reads: “Baxter Public Hall”. An air vent is seen at the top of the front wall, near the roof line. Three windows and a small door are along the side of the building. Tall pine trees are on either side of the image. Part of a harnessed horse can be seen on the far right-hand side beside a partly visible water tank.
