HISTORYThis is the commencement of the foreshore reclamation at Hastings in the 1960s. The photograph was taken from the Shire Offices in Marine Parade, Hastings. The pine tree on the right is the historic ‘Perrott’ tree, Cypress Lambertiana. The tree was planted in 1902 by Alice Maud Mary Perrott of Hastings. Local residents were encouraged to plant trees that year to mark the coronation of Edward VII.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a foreshore lined with mangroves. A rubbish tip is on the right-hand side. Large branches of a pine tree are partly visible beside the tip. A stretch of water is across the middle of the image and land is in the background. Several small boats dot the water. Two small masts are in the foreground and a pole is on the right-hand side. Wires run across the top section of the photograph and a road is in the foreground.
