HISTORYThis photograph of the Bakery shop was taken in the 1960s on the corner of High and Salmon Streets, Hastings. The bakery was built for the Ryan family on the corner which is now occupied by the library. Arthur Pinder took over the bakery from the Ryans about 1929.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a street scene with a bakery in the centre of the image. The bakery is a small weatherboard building with a verandah over the footpath supported by two posts. The building is on a corner of two streets. Two women are on the footpath and another is standing in the doorway. The word BAKERY is printed in very large letters on a board at the top of the building. Another sign is on the verandah roof. A wooden fence runs on either side of the bakery. A smaller wooden building is on the left-hand side and part of another building is beside that. The verandah post of another shop is in the foreground and the word “Sails” is written on the side. Two tall electricity poles are on the right-hand side and another pole on the far left-hand side of the image. A street sign on the corner reads “H.M.A.S. Cerberus Flinders Naval Depot”.
