HISTORY

The Minister for Local Government, the Hon. Murray Porter MLA is swearing in the newly elected Councillors for the Somerville and Hastings Ridings. The men are from left to right: D.M. Thompson, J.A. Babington, A.A. Alden, G.L. Pentreath, H.A. Gallus and M. O’Sullivan. This was the first council for the Shire of Hastings.

DESCRIPTION

This image shows a group of six men standing before a seventh man at a swearing-in ceremony. They are all holding a book in their right hand and the seventh man is reading from a sheet of paper. Two microphones on stands are beside him. Wooden buildings can be seen on the right-hand side of the photograph and people are standing in front of them, including a girl, holding a bouquet of flowers.
