HISTORYThis is the bakers cart of Mr P. Ryan. He opened a bakery in Hastings in 1904. The Ryan family baked bread through to the 1950s. Written on the back of the photograph in blue pen is: “Mr P Ryan Baker’. Also printed in black is: “H893”.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a horse and cart in the middle of the road. A man is standing in the back of the cart holding onto the reins. He is wearing a hat and coat. The cart has rubber tyres and has large letters painted on the side and smaller letters across the front at the top. A grassed paddock with small trees can be seen in the background. A large sign is in the paddock on the far right-hand side of the image.
