HISTORY

This is a visit by the Australian Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies and his wife Dame Patti. The lady at the left is unidentified. This photograph was taken outside the BP Refinery Western Port administration building. This occasion was the inaugural opening of the Hastings Day Celebrations on 14th October, 1969.
This information is written on the back of the photograph in black pen. Photographic information is also printed in red on the back. In his capacity as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports and Constable of Dover Castle, Sir Robert Menzies, K.T., C.H., F.R.S., Q.C., officiated at this function. A highlight of the day was a luncheon at BPs Westernport Refinery, hosted by the General Manager, Mr L. F. Ogden. Also attending were the Hastings Shire President Councillor, G.M. Robinson and representatives of local industry, all accompanied by their wives.

DESCRIPTION

This image shows a man and two women standing in front of a car. The man is wearing a double breasted, dark coloured suit, white shirt and tie. He is holding a walking stick in his right hand. He has grey hair and dark bushy eyebrows. The woman on the left is wearing a light coloured coat, gloves, small hat and has a handbag over her right arm. Her hands are clasped at the front. The woman on the right is wearing a printed suit dress, gloves, hat and pearls. She is holding a handbag in her right hand. Five cars can be seen parked behind the group. Water, boats and a jetty can be seen in the distance, and land in the far distance. A small structure can be seen on the far right hand side of the image. The other two images show a group of people standing outside a brick building. The large glass doors have BP on the handles.
