HISTORYThis shop belonged to Ned Kearns and was on the corner of Salmon and High Street, Hastings. He sold groceries, sweets, pies and cigarettes. One of the features of the shop was the Tea Rooms. The building with the high roof, between the two power poles was the Ko-Ze Movie Hall. The shadow on the street is from the Royal Hotel, now the Westernport. This photograph comes from the Mentiplay Collection.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows a street scene with shops along the right-hand side. The building in the foreground is situated on a street corner and has three post verandah. Large front windows are on either side of a door. The words “Tea Rooms” are on the wall beside the window. Two windows can be seen on the far right-hand side of the shop. Advertising boards are leaning up against the building on the left-hand side. A large high section of the building is behind the shop. A utility is parked in the street. Two tall power poles are beside the footpath on the left-hand side and a white street sign is on the far right-hand side.
